Hello Rich,
Sincere apologies that you have got one of those niggly pails. We do get one of those occasionally!
The problem:
The reason for the lid being almost vacuum-sealed is that due to atmospheric pressure change in its sea travels from the tropics (Sri Lanka ) to the colder southern hemisphere (New Zealand), the lid gets sucked in tight and harder to loosen.
The fact that the oil is a clear liquid at the start of the journey in the tropics and sloshes inside travelling and hardens solid near the opening area by the time it reaches NZ means, it is now also glued together with solidified coconut oil!
The solution:
Running a hairdryer around the unopened rim of the bucket until warm to touch and then inserting a flat screwdriver at the tab where the tear off is and running it around the rim before opening it can help.
Steps:
1. Run a hairdryer over the rim of the sealed bucket until warm to touch.
2. Use a flat screwdriver (with a strong ‘hold’ handle at its other end) works.
3. Find the tab that holds the strip off seal and remove it right around the lid.
4. Insert the flat screwdriver under the lid, right to the top of the inside edge of the bucket.
5. Run the screwdriver ( pushed right up to the top) around the inner circumference.
6. Then lever the lid up using the screwdriver.
7. This always works! Let us know if it goes well.
Again, sincere apologies for the inconvenience. Thank you for understanding Rich!
