Description

Versatile

Ceylonese Papaya/ Papaw taste amazing. Simply cut and dried organic papaya strips, from the tropical island of Ceylon. No sweeteners, No preservatives, No added sugar. Just simply dried from raw, and packed into every HEIRLOOM Organic Papaya strips pack.

Uses

Fresh papaya, typically eaten raw by scooping out its soft flesh, cannot grow in New Zealand. To share this nutritious fruit, we dehydrate it.

To rehydrate, soak in hot water or any fruit juice for 15-20 minutes. Use the rehydrated bits as a chewy cereal topping, in smoothies, or as a filler in baking, while the brew can be enjoyed as herbal tea. If not rehydrating, use kitchen scissors to chop up the strips further and:

  • Toss rehydrated/ dried papaya strips bits into your favorite smoothie
  • Use them in baked goods like muffins and bread
  • Blend papaya strips into homemade salad dressing, savory sauces, and dips
  • Mix them with nuts and other dried fruit for an energy-packed snack
  • Incorporate dried papaya strips with coconut, almond butter, and puréed dates to make healthy energy balls
  • Replace refined-sugar dried fruits in cookie recipes
  • Add fine papaya strips into salads and cereals
  • Finely chopped strips of papaya can also be used as a meat tenderizer
  • Can also be used in the second fermentation of homemade Kombucha

Flavor

The papaya strips are naturally sweet and richly aromatic of fresh papaw, more so if rehydrated. This product is harvested in a cottage industry initiative that does not use any chemical refining, additives, or preservatives to standardize the product.

Ingredient

100% dried papaya/ papaw
Grown in Ceylon (Sri Lanka). Packaged in a facility that also processes cashew and coconuts

Storage

Keep airtight in the pantry, away from sunlight and damp. Its potency and flavor remain strong as long as it is stored airtight.

These papaya strips boast a best-before date of two years from manufacture and remain safe for even longer if stored with minimal exposure to light, air, and moisture. HEIRLOOM Papaya strips are packed at the origin, right where they are harvested, ensuring sealed freshness and reducing exposure from day one until you open the pack

A slight color change is possible as the product is completely free of sulfites or other nasties that would otherwise keep them brightly colored.

Our Promise

There is nothing else. No refining or coloring. 100% zero-waste, no bi-products. This product is internationally accredited by Control Union; Certified Organic (EU and USDA NOP), ISO and/or HACCP certified.

Benefits

An excellent source of antioxidants, dietary fibre and loaded with a variety of vitamins and minerals, the papaya has impressive health benefits :

  • Rich in healthy antioxidants like carotenoids and lycopene, our papaya products offer superior absorption compared to other fruits and vegetables. These antioxidants effectively neutralize free radicals, preventing cellular damage.
  • Additionally, the combination of lycopene and vitamin C in papaya has been shown to visibly reduce facial wrinkles and even redness from sunburn.
  • Some research has proved papaya extract even helps reduce the growth of cancer cells.
  • The enzyme papain supports protein digestion and can contribute to easing constipation and bloating.
  • Fermented papaya can even reduce oxidative stress in older adults, prediabetics, those with mild hypothyroidism and liver disease

100 + years of expertise

Sales of our dried papaya strips support the traditional livelihoods of villagers in the dry regions of Sri Lanka.
By growing and harvesting papaya using age-old methods, they preserve their expertise and survive in a modern, mechanized world.
Backed by generations of expertise, and packed in a certified ISO and organic processing mill, this product is vital for the employment, welfare, and wellbeing of the rural village community. Additionally, we provide the children of our workforce with school books and stationery for the entire school year.

The mill also organizes religious and cultural events to inculcate a sense of belonging to a bigger cause, bringing a sense of pride and community to the villagers who are using age-old knowledge, treading lightly, and making a living for their families, sustainably.

Quality for price

Unlike mass-produced supermarket brands, we craft our products in small batches to ensure exceptional quality. Moreover, we prioritize paying fair prices to millers and farmers, even without economies of scale. Specifically made for New Zealand, Kokonati & Heirloom products combine multigenerational expertise to deliver premium quality, justifying their premium price

Loyalty

Just as we are fiercely loyal to the millers and families we work with, we also want to reward you, for your loyalty. So every time you purchase an Heirloom product you also collect rewards points that can be redeemed for a discount at checkout. Remember to sign up for the reward points (the tab on the far mid-right edge of this screen).

Packaging & Recycling

100g bag-in-box. 2.5kg bag. The card box can be disposed of in your recycling bin. Dispose of the soft plastic bag in the supermarket collection bin.

The reason we use a soft plastic bag for dried fruits is so you can see the product in the clear window before you buy it. Also because the product potency is preserved without exposure to air or moisture. The box protects the product by reducing exposure to light.

Possible precautions: Papaya is considered safe for most people. It is advisable to consult your healthcare provider or registered dietitian to make sure it’s safe to consume it alongside, any prescription medication or for particular therapeutic uses.

10 packs of papaya strips

Thank you for having my order (papaya strips ) delivered. I’m grateful that you had the stock while most of stores were out of stock. But comparing to the loose papaya at goodfor at Kumeū, yours is too dry, too thin and lack of flavour.

Thank you for your feedback! We’re glad we could fulfill your order when other stores were out of stock. Our dried papaya strips are crafted to preserve natural flavor while providing a convenient, healthy snack option. If you find them a bit dry, try rehydrating them by soaking them in hot water or fruit juice for about 15-20 minutes. This will help enhance their texture and flavor. We appreciate your input and will consider it as we continuously strive to improve our products. Please feel free to reach out if you have any more suggestions or questions. Thank you for choosing us, and we hope to serve you again soon!
